The PhD project aims to investigate mountain cult areas in pre-Roman times in southern Umbria from several points of view. Starting from an in-depth analysis of the material culture and topographical aspects of the sanctuary of Monte Torre Maggiore (TR), investigated through archaeological excavations on several occasions by the Soprintendenza per i Beni Archeologici dell'Umbria over the last decades, an attempt will be made to construct a chronological and typological framework useful for understanding the development of the phenomenon. The elements of change and continuity in the composition of the votive offerings regime will be identified, especially in relation to the events of the Roman conquest, and particular attention will be paid to the phenomenon of small votive bronzes, both from a weight and an archaeological point of view. Furthermore, the exceptional quality and quantity of data available for the sanctuary of Monte Torre Maggiore will be used as a term of comparison in relation to other cult areas in southern Umbria for which less data is available (Monte San Pancrazio, Monte Moro, Monte Torricella).
