Monika Wozniak studied Polish Language and Literature at the Catholic University of Lublin and Italian Language and Literature at the Jagiellonian University of Cracow. She obtained her PhD in Human Sciences in 1999 (“Dimensions of Fantastic in the work of Tommaso Landolfi”, published in 2001, Faculty Award 2002). She had worked at Institute of Roman Philology of Jagiellonian University (1992-2008) as a Researcher and (since 2001) Associate Professor of Italian Literature and Language. She is now an Associate Professor of Polish Language and Literature at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (since 2008).
Her research has addressed several topics in Literary Translation, Comparative Literature and Polish and Italian Literature; more recently it has focused on Children’s Literature and Translation as well as Audiovisual Translation. She is also a literary translator herself and has translated works of Moravia, Eco, Fallaci, Camilleri and Calvino in Polish and Polish Children’s classics in Italian. She partecipated in several Polish-Italian research projects, currently is taking part in one about “Film Genre in Audiovisual Translation”. She is a member of editorial & scientific boards of "Przekładaniec. Journal of literary translation" (Kraków), “Italica Wratislaviensia” (Wroclaw), “Filoteknos” (Wroclaw), member of Polish Academy of Abilities (PAU) and Association of Italian scholars of Polish Studies (API).
