Research: Environmental crisis, social conflicts and new paths of indigenous authority in the Ixil region of Guatemala.

Research
Since 2017, I have been carrying out ethnographic research in Guatemala, where I work on the revitalization processes of the "ancestral" Maya Ixil authorities, "legal pluralism" and educational pathways in the post-genocide period. Here I also collaborate as a tutor, consultant and facilitator within the Universidad Ixil (community educational institution), Fundamaya (translocal NGO) and the Alcaldías Indígenas and Comunitaria of the municipalities of Nebaj, Chajul and Cotzal.

The aim of my research is to analyse the ways in which Maya Ixil "ancestral authorities" (indigenous alcaldes, curanderos, guías espirituales) deal with the environmental crisis in territories damaged by extractive megaproyectos. My focus will be on the languages, epistemologies and strategies employed by women and the so-called "post-conflict generation" in traditionally gerontocratic and masculine authority.
