Matteo Pimpinelli, Curriculum of Arabic, Iranian, and Islamic Studies, XXXVI cycle
RESEARCH PROJECT'S ABSTRACT:
The main goal of the research project is to produce a critical edition of the text of the second maqāla, on optical matters, of the Arabic ophthalmological text entitled Kitāb nūr al-ʿuyūn wa-ǧāmiʿ al-funūn, dated at the beginning of the 8th/14th c. The critical edition will be completed by a commented English translation. The philological work will be supported by a codicological and paleographical study of the manuscript testimonia of the work, aiming to produce analytical sheets of the witnesses at issue. Beyond the introductory section, focused on the presentation and contextualization of the work and its author, the thesis will be then completed by three Appendices, respectively devoted to: specialized glossary, the role of diagrams, edition and translation of the section on strabism (ninth maqāla).
