Research: LIFE IN THE CRADLE OF CIVILIZATION: A MULTI-ISOTOPIC STUDY ON DIET AND MOBILITY IN ANCIENT SOUTHERN MESOPOTAMIA

Matteo Giaccari is a Heritage Scientist passionate for isotopes’ applications to different research fields, especially archeology with focuses on dietary habits and mobility studies. During his bachelor’s degree, he developed the thesis “The isotopic ratio 87Sr/86Sr as mobility/permanence marker in Velia archeological site” in which he investigated the application of strontium isotopes in archeology. During his master thesis “Sheding light on the Dark Ages: reconstructing dietary habits in Medieval Florence using a multi-isotopic approach”, he has carried out a thorough study based on carbon, nitrogen and sulfur isotopes applied for the first time to a Medieval archaeological context in Italy.
