Research: Italianness, Nation, and the People: Instrumental Music in Liberal Italy (1861-1922)
Curriculum: History and Analysis of Musical Cultures
The research project proposes a study of Italian instrumental music in the key period 1861–1922 in order, on the one hand, to investigate the contribution that folklore-influenced composers offered to the identity issues that shaped the Kingdom of Italy and, on the other hand, to situate Italy within the broader European framework of Nationalism Studies, which have so far examined the Italian context mainly on the basis of its operatic music.
