Research: Music and the People in the Kingdom of Italy, 1861-1922: Regionalism, Nationalism, and Internationalism
Curriculum: History and Analysis of Musical Cultures
My research project proposes a study of non-operatic Italian music in the key period 1861-1922 in order, on the one hand, to investigate the contribution that folklore-influenced composers made to the identity issues that inhabited the Kingdom of Italy and, on the other, to situate Italy in the broader European framework of Nationalism studies that have so far interrogated the Italian context mainly on the basis of its operatic music.
