Mass media, which can be divided into interactive and non-interactive segments depending on the level of communication and information technology they use, have a great influence on citizens and communities in today's world and naturally have a great power to influence. Accordingly, in the new era, media are used in various fields. These areas include economics, trade, culture, politics, and so on. Hence, the media have the ability to shape the public opinion of societies and promote certain cultures, which has a different scope for different governments depending on the power of news and information process. Mass media has been active in politics for a long time, but with the advent of the information era, these media, especially interactive media, have become more powerful, so that today in international relations, public diplomacy as a new and influential part of the field of policy is negotiable. A part of public diplomacy is media diplomacy, which encompasses foreign policy in such a way that governments, with the help of media tools, try to advance their goals and objectives in their foreign policy. In recent years, media diplomacy has become increasingly popular with politicians around the world, especially on Twitter. This desire has been present in the foreign policy apparatus of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America. Therefore, in this study, we examine the role and position of media diplomacy in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic and the United States of America (2009-2012).
