Marie Ciampi is a PhD candidate in Public Policy Analysis and Evaluation at Sapienza University of Rome, holding a doctoral scholarship in collaboration with SVIMEZ – Association for the Development of Industry in Southern Italy.

Her research focuses on the long-term effects of industrial policy in Southern Italy, with particular attention to the experience of the Cassa per il Mezzogiorno (1950–1992). She investigates how different territorial and sectoral strategies of public investment have influenced regional development and social change over time.

She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a Master’s degree in Economic Analysis of International Institutions, through which she developed a strong interest in public policy evaluation and regional development.

Visiting research experiences:

1. London School of Economics (LSE, January–April 2025) – Visiting researcher under the supervision of Prof. Riccardo Crescenzi.

2. University of Southern Denmark (SDU, Odense, September 2025 – March 2026) – Visiting researcher under the supervision of Prof. Giovanni Mellace.

Her broader research interests include regional and industrial policy, public policy evaluation, and the analysis of spatial and long-term development dynamics.
