Curriculum vitae
Maria Sabrina Sarto was born in 1968, pursued the Laurea Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1992 and the PhD in Electrical Engineering in 1998 at Sapienza University of Rome. She has been Associate Professor at Sapienza University from 1998 to 2004 and Full Professor of Electrical Engineering at Sapienza University of Rome since 2005 at the Department of Astronautic, Electrical and Energy Engineering (DIAEE).

From 1998 to 2005 she has been Scientific Director of the Laboratory of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of DIAEE and from 2005 until the present Scientific Director of the EMC and Nanotechnology Lab of DIAEE; from 2006 to 2015 she has been Director of the Research Center for Nanotechnology Applied to Engineering of Sapienza (CNIS), from 2011 to 2016 Scientific Director of Sapienza Nanotechnology and Nanoscience Laboratory, since 2016 Director of the Dept. of Astronautics, Electrical and Energy Engineering (DIAEE), from 2015 to 2020 Deputy-Rector for “Infrastructures and tools for research of excellence” at Sapienza University and from 2021 Deputy Rector for "Research".

Prof. Sarto has been teaching the courses of: "Electrical Engineering" for the Laurea Degree in Aerospace Engineering since 1996, the course of "Electromagnetic Compatibility" for the Master Degree in Electrical Engineering since 2008, the course of "Design of micro / nano electrical and electromagnetic devices" for the Master of Degree in Engineering Nanotechnology since 2009.

Her research is framed in the field of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), nanotechnologies and carbon-based nanomaterials for applications in electrical engineering, electronics, aerospace, sensing, energy harvesting; nanostructured multifunctional materials for use in cultural heritage, sensing, energy, and biotechnology. She is the author of more than 210 scientific articles in international journals and proceedings of highly qualified international conferences and of several Italian and international patents in the field of nanomaterials and graphene-based multifunctional materials, of one US patent on graphene-filled composite for application as radar absorbing materials.

Prof. Sarto was scientific director and coordinator of several research projects funded by national and international agencies and industries, and in particular of a PRIN 2000 and a PRIN 2008, and of one european project on carbon-nanotubes interconnects. He has coordinated several research projects in the field of nanomaterials and electromagnetic compatibility in aerospace, funded by industry.
She was scientific coordinator of the European project FP7 CATHERINE (2008-2011), unit coordinator and work-package leader in the European project FP7 HIRF-SE (2009-2012), unit coordinator of PON project TECLA on nanotechnologies for cultural heritage, coordinator of the Center of Exccellence DTC Lazio since 2018.

Prof. Sarto has held numerous positions in the service of the international scientific community:
- 2001-2002: "Distinguished Lecturer" of the IEEE EMC Society;
- From 1998 until Sept 30, 2017: Associate Editor of the international journal “IEEE Transactions on EMC”;
- From 2018: Associate Editor of the international journal “Electronics”;
- In 2006, founder of the Technical Committee of the IEEE EMC Society "TC10-Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials";
- From 2006 to today: co-chair of the Technical Committee of the IEEE EMC Society "TC10-Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials";
- From 2005 to today, representative of the IEEE EMC Society in the IEEE Nanotechnology Council;
- Since 2005, a member of the Advisory Board of the IEEE Nanotechnology Council;
- Since 2005, Chair of the Committee WG-IEEE STD 299.1 of the IEEE EMC Society;
- In 2009, a member of the Technical Committee of the International Congress Organizing "IEEE NANO 2009" - Genova, July 2009;
- In 2009, a member of the Technical Committee of the International Congress Organizing "EMC EUROPE Workshop 2009: Advanced materials for EMC" - Athens, June 2009;
- Since 2008, a member of the Steering Committee of the international conference "International Symposium EMC EUROPE";
- Since 1999, organizer and Chair-person of the many editions of international workshops on topics of nanotechnology and advanced materials;
- 2011-2013, Member of the "IEEE Electromagnetics Award Committee"
- 2014-2015 Chair-person of the "IEEE Electromagnetics Award Committee."
- General Co-Chair of the IEEE Internal Symposium on Nanotechnology, IEEE NANO 2015, held in Rome.
- From 2012 to 2014, she has been member of the Electromagnetics Award Committee of the IEEE;
- From 2012 to 2014, she has been member of the Electromagnetics Award Committee of the IEEE;
- From 2015 to 2016, she has been Chair of the Electromagnetics Award Committee of the IEEE;

She has received during his career numerous scientific awards and prizes: in 1993, the Best Paper Award of 1993 IEEE International Symposium on EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) - Dallas; in 1996, the Past President's Memorial Award of the IEEE EMC Society in 1996 as best young researcher in the field of electromagnetic compatibility; in 1997, the Past President's Memorial Award of the IEEE EMC Society in 1997 as best young researcher in the field of electromagnetic compatibility; in 1997, the Prize Paper Award of the IEEE EMC Society for the "Best Paper" published in the international journal IEEE Transactions on EMC in 1997; in 2000, the Prize Paper Award of the IEEE EMC Society for the "Best Paper" published in the international journal IEEE Transactions on EMC in 2000; in 2000, the Best Paper Award of the International Symposium EMC Europe 2000 - Brugge; in 2001, the Wright Brother Medal of SAE (Society of Automotive and Aerospace Engineers) in 2002 for the best scientific work published in 2001; in 2005, the Best Paper Award of 2005 IEEE International Symposium on EMC - Chicago; in 2009, the prize Sapienza Research for the study entitled "New nanostructured materials for electromagnetic shielding"; in 2011, the Best Student Paper Award of the 2011 IEEE International Symposium on EMC - Long Beach (CA); the award "Sapienza Research" in 2009; in 2016 one the Best Student Paper Award at 2016 IEEE Sensor International Symposium.
In 2010, she was appointed Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineering) for outstanding contribution in the field of "Advanced Materials for Electromagnetic Compatibility."
