Maria Carosella (Palermo, 1971) holds a degree in Literature from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” with a dissertation in Italian dialectology, and has a PhD in Italian Linguistics at the University of Florence. She obtained a short-term research grant at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and won a one-year scholarship at LEI (Lessico Etimologico Italiano) directed by M. Pfister in Saarbrücken (Germany), funded by the Accademia della Crusca (Florence) and the Presidency of the Italian Republic.

She partecipated as an editor at numerous lexicographical works such as: The vocabulary of Synonyms and Antonyms and The vocabulary Treccani (Institute of Treccani, Rome) under the direction of R. Simone; the Treasury of the Italian language of the Origins (TLIO) under the direction of P. Beltrami; and the LEI under the direction of M. Pfister.
She participated at the transcription and the automatic encoding of the corpus LIR (Lexicons of Italian radio) directed by N. Maraschio, and for several years was editor of bibliographic records for BIGLLI (Bibliography of Literature and Linguistics Italian), under the direction of E. Malato.

From 2001 to 2006 she was a contract professor at various Italian Universities (i.e. Sassari, Campobasso, Rome LUMSA, The University for Foreigners of Perugia), covering various subjects concerning the field L-FIL-LET/12 (History of the Italian language, Italian Linguistics, Teaching of the Italian language, Sociolinguistics, Start writing, theories and techniques of writing) and the field L-LIN/01 (General Linguistics, Phonetics and Phonology).
From 2006 to 2014 she was a researcher for the scientific field L-Fil-LET/12 (Italian linguistics) at the University of Bari, where she has covered teachings pertaining to the field (History of the Italian language, Italian grammar, Italian Linguistic, Italian Dialectology and Teaching of the Italian language) both at the University of Bari that in its secondary center of Taranto.
Since 2015 she is Associate Professor at the same University (Bari, Italy, department LELIA - Lettres Languages Arts. Italian study and comparative cultures) where she held the teaching activities pertaining to her scientific sector.
She as national scientific lability as an first class professor (ASN 2016-18) for the sector 10/F3.

Since 2018 she is scientific director whit Patrizia Sorianello of the ethnolinguistic section of the museum of the territory of Cassano and of the high Murgis; since 2017 scientific director whit Patrizia Sorianello of ADiSonPuglia (Digital sound archive Apulia) under the patronage of the department LELIA, since 2021 DIRIUM, of University “Aldo Moro” of Bari; she is coordinator of the Italian language section of the project Nunc est discendum (departments DISUM and LELIA of University “Aldo Moro” of Bari)

Since 2015 she is a member of the College Ph.D. in Linguistics at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome-University Rome 3; in the past (2011-2015) she was a member of the College Ph.D. Historical Linguistics and Italian linguistic history at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” and (2008-2011) curriculum Lexicon and Onomastics at the University of Turin.

She is a member of the following association: ASLI (Association for the History of the Italian language), the Inter-University Centre for Studies on Tradition (University of Bari, Padua and San Marino), the Dante Alighieri Society (Section of Bari) and the Society of National History for Puglia (Bari Section).

She is a member of the Scientific Committee of the publishing series Philology of literature of Italians directed by Dino Manca.
