My research activity is related to the investigation of heat transfer processes in both conventional and unconventional materials, such as Silicon Carbide on one side, and topological insulators on the other side. The main goal consists in understanding how to modify heat propagation by acting a priori on sample's growth processes and a posteriori via their artificial nano-patterning in order to improve their thermoelectric efficiency, i.e. their capability to directly and reversibly convert thermal and electrical energies. The nano-patterning aspect is found to be part of a larger research interest, regarding the study of both electromagnetic and transport properties alteration via the generation of artificially engineered materials, including metamaterials and phononic/photonic crystals.
