Luca Simione got his PhD in 2011 in the “Cognitive Psychology” PhD course at “Sapienza” University of Rome, with a position cofounded from Perceptual Dynamics Laboratory of Riken Institute, Japan. The PhD thesis had the title: “ViSA: A neurodynamic model for visuospatial working memory, attentional blink and conscious access”. Since 2019 he is a Researcher at Institute of Cognitive Sciences and Technologies (ISTC) of the CNR, Italy. He former was a post-doc researcher at Sapienza, University of Rome, and ISTC. Since 2023, he is also an associate professor in General Psychology at UNINT, Università degli Studi Internazionali, Rome. He is also an Associate member of ECONA, Centro interuniversitario di Ricerca sull'Elaborazione COgnitiva in sistemi Naturali e Artificiali. Laslty, in 2020 he took a Specialization in Psychotherapy at IPUE, Institute of Existential Humanistic Psychology (Istituto di Psicologia Umanistica Esistenziale “Luigi de Marchi”; riconosciuta dal MIUR con Decreto 12.10.2007).
His research focuses on consciousness, awareness, and mindfulness, with a specific focus on theoretical aspects and models. He has advanced programming and statistical skills, as demonstrated by his publication records in both statistical models and neurocomputational studies. In fact, he developed sophisticated models of consciousness based on neuropsychological data and conducted neurophysiological experiments. He also has a strong background on experimental psychology, in particular with attention and memory paradigms and with emotional manipulation/induction. He has active national and international collaborations (Prof. Antonino Raffone, Sapienza University of Rome; Prof. Anna Borghi, Sapienza University of Rome; Prof. Daniela Pajardi, University of Urbino; Dr. Stefano Nolfi, ISTC; Prof. Marco Fabbri, University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli”; Prof. Monica Martoni, University of Bologna; Prof. Cees Van Leeuwen, University of Leuven; Prof. Howard Bowman, University of Kent; Prof. Frances Maratos, University of Derby).
He authored about 50 papers in international peer reviewed journals and edited six special issues on international journals. He participated in many national and international conferences, and actively organized the first two International Conference on Mindfulness and three editions of the International Conference on Spatial Cognition.
He is an Associate Editor for the international journals Mindfulness, Cognitive Processing, Psychology and Behavioral Sciences (PBS), Frontiers in Psychology (Consciousness Research). He is also a Topic Editor for the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
He is an international member of the American Psychological Association APA and member of The Society for Humanistic Psychology, Division 32, APA. He is also an Ordinary member of AIP, Associazione Italiana di Psicologia, and of AISC, Associazione Italiana di Scienza Cognitiva. He is also honored of the membership of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.
