Education and training
1988-1989: undergraduate student at Department of “Study of chemistry and technology of biologically active substances” at Sapienza University of Rome
1990: Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology degree – 110/100 cum laude. The thesis work was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Felice Liberatore . Thesis title: “Correlation between electronic spectra and 1,4- and 1,6-dihydropyridine chromophore in monomeric and dimeric systems”.
1994: PhD in Pharmaceutical Science. The PhD work was carried out in the laboratory of Medicinal Department of “Chemistry and Technology of biologically active substances” at Sapienza University of Rome, under the supervision of Prof. Vincenzo Carelli. Thesis: “A novel chemical system for the site-specific release of bioactive substance: Delivery and release of dopamine, GABA and serotonine to the central nervous system”.
1995: CNR grant by the “National committee for chemical sciences” for research activity at the “Centre for the electrochemistry and physical-chemistry of the interfaces”.

The last ten years’ research activity was carried out mainly in the following fields:
Synthesis of antifungal and anti-tubercular compounds belonging to the class of CYP51 inhibitors.
Synthesis of derivatives of natural compounds endowed with antibiofilm activity.
Synthesis of anti-Leishmanian and anti-Trypanosomal compounds belonging to the classes of CYP51 and Trypanothione reductase inhibitors.
Synthesis of Carbonic anhydrase inhibitors with activity on Vibrio cholerae.
Synthesis of anti HIV compounds with anti-Integrase and anti-Reverse transcriptase activity
Synthesis and biological evaluation of multifactorial Cholinesterases inhibitors, with metal chelating, radical scavenging properties, anti-amyloid aggregation properties and anti-MAO activity.
Synthesis of anticancer p-300 histone acetyltransferase inhibitors.

Main Grants and funding
2003-2005 and 2005-2007: local coordinator for PRIN research projects.
Principal investigator in Ateneo Projects of “Sapienza” in the years 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009 on research regarding anti-Alzheimer drugs and 2016 on research regarding anti-fungal and anti-protozoal drugs.
