Luca De Nardis received both his Laurea degree and his Ph.D. from Sapienza University of Rome in 2001 and 2005, respectively. Since December 2008 he is an Assistant Professor at the DIET Department of Sapienza University of Rome. In 2006 he was a visiting scholar at the EECS Department at the University of California at Berkeley. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the same institution until April 2007.
Luca De Nardis authored or co-authored over 100 publications in international peer-reviewed journals and conferences, including IEEE Journal of Selected Areas in Communications, IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Technique, ACM Mobile Networks and Applications and IEEE Transactions on Cognitive Communications and Networking. He is also actively involved in tutorial activities, with tutorials on Ultra Wide Band and Cognitive Radio technologies offered at major IEEE Conferences such as ICC and VTC. From September 2007 to December 2009 he was an associate editor for the journal Research Letters on Communications, published by Hindawi Publishing Corporation, and he is currently an Editor for the Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, also published by Hindawi Publishing Corporation. He was recently co-chair of the Wireless Access Track of the IEEE VTC 2012 conference, and co-chair of the MACNET Workshop at the IEEE ICC 2013 conference. He was co-chair of the Networking protocols track at the CROWNCOM 2016 conference.
He is also a reviewer for several international Journals and Transactions published by IEEE, ACM and EURASIP, and served as member of Technical Program Committee of over 50 international IEEE conferences.
He was also selected as expert/evaluator for Italian and European projects, among which the Open Calls issued by the FP7 CREW project in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and three Open Calls issued by H2020 project WiSHFUL throughout 2016.
Since 2002, he has been participating in European IST projects focusing on Ultra Wide Band communication systems and cognitive radio, including the FP5 project UCAN, and the FP6 projects PULSERS and PULSERS Phase 2.
In January 2010 he was nominated by Italian Ministry of University as one of the two representatives for Italy in the COST Action IC0905, focusing on standardization and regulation aspects of Cognitive Radio Technology. In the period December 2009 – December 2013 he was also involved in scientific and management activities of COST Action IC0902, aiming at the creation of a European platform for cognitive radios and networks, with the role of Working Group leader. In the period October 2010 – December 2013 he was involved in the FP7 EU-funded ACROPOLIS Network of Excellence, with the role of Work Package leader.
His research interests focus on UWB radio technology, Medium Access Control, routing and positioning protocols for wireless networks, and on the design of cognitive wireless networks.
He is an IEEE member since 1998.
