Lorenzo D'Angelo has carried out field research in Italy, Sierra Leone, Tanzania, and Uganda. During his fieldwork in Italy, he addressed the social suffering of asylum seekers and undocumented migrants. Since 2007, he has been conducting historical and ethnographic research on the economic, cultural and religious aspects of artisanal mining in Sierra Leone. Between 2017 and 2019 he carried out field research on agri-food systems and climate change in the Northern area of Tanzania. In 2019, he has started field research on artisanal mining and environmental changes in Uganda.
