Thesis title: Giuseppe Verdi a Vienna (1843-1918). Produzione, repertorio, prassi esecutiva.

This research analyzes the reception of Giuseppe Verdi’s operas in Vienna from 1843 to 1918, with a particular focus on production, repertoire, and performance practice. By examining the methods of dissemination and adaptation of Verdi’s works in the Viennese context, the study highlights the role of production dynamics in shaping the perception of Italian music abroad. The dissertation explores the progressive consolidation of authorial control, particularly through the contributions of publisher Ricordi, and how performance choices influenced the success of certain operas over others. This work contributes to a broader reflection on the interplay between artistic autonomy and institutional influences in late 19th-century Vienna, offering a fresh perspective on the evolution of the Italian operatic canon in the European context.
