Research: Environment-risk assessment as a preventive conservation strategy for effective short- and long-term management of cinematographic archives

PhD student in Earth Sciences - Curriculum "Environment and Cultural Heritage" - 37th PON cycle, with the project titled "Environment-risk assessment as a preventive conservation strategy for effective short- and long-term management of cinematographic archives". The overall objective is the definition of a strategy to mitigate the impact of gaseous atmospheric pollutants and risky microclimate conditions on collections stored within cinematographic archives. Specific objectives include: (i) Quantification of the impact of environmental factors on various types of collections (e.g., cinema posters, cinema photographs, and film reels) through experimental and modelling activities; (ii) Implementation of existing procedures for air quality assessment by experimenting with innovative sensors for the detection of Volatile Organic Compounds in case-study cinematographic archives and by refining commonly adopted sensors; (iii) Development of an operational protocol for the management of cinematographic archives, based on experimental relationships and risk models to quantify and qualify the effects of current and future environmental conditions on “invaluable but vulnerable” cultural heritage collections. The main object of the study is the National Film Archive (Cineteca Nazionale) of the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia (CSC) located in Rome, Italy. Short Curriculum Vitae: Advanced Training Course "Photography from Daguerreotype to Digital: Techniques, Conservation, Archiving, Digitalization" from April to December 2021 at the University of Tuscia (VT), including an internship at the Alinari Foundation for Photography (FI). Master's degree in "Sciences and Technologies for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage" (LM-11) obtained on 20/09/2021 at La Sapienza University of Rome (110L), thesis: Diagnostic investigation conducted on ancient books at the Library of Legal Sciences of La Sapienza University of Rome. (Exams passed with an average of 30, Winner of the Excellence Program for the Academic Year 2020-2021, thesis carried out in collaboration with the University of Tuscia: Diagnostic investigation conducted on historical photographic material).
