Research: Unguentaria in Etruria between the 6th and the 3rd century BC. The case study of the specimens from the necropolis of Valle Trebba in Spina

PhD student in Archaeology- Curriculum of Etruscology, Sapienza University of Rome, XXXIX program, with a project titled "Unguentaria in Etruria between the 6th and the 3rd century BC. The case study of the specimens from the necropolis of Valle Trebba in Spina". The project aims to address the systematic study of the vessels generally identified in literature as 'unguentaria' found in the necropolis of Valle Trebba in Spina (late 6th - late 3rd century BC). The focus will be on issues related to production, circulation, the nature of contents, and the use of these vessels in the funerary ritual of Spina, with the support of archaeometric analyses. The research aims to deepen the knowledge of Spina in terms of commercial and cultural dynamics and with respect to its funerary rituals, through the analytical and multidisciplinary study of materials present throughout the entire period of use of a funerary area of the city. Moreover, the project intends to compare the examined reality with contemporary Etruscan contexts of funerary, sacred, and residential nature and to evaluate the possible contribution of Etruscan iconographic sources through an integrated study approach.
