Laura Chronopoulou is an Associate Professor in Industrial Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry of the Sapienza University of Rome (SSD CHIM/04).
She is teaching Industrial Chemistry to Bachelor students in Chemical Sciences and Sustainable Materials for the Industry and the Environment to Master students in Industrial Chemistry.
She obtained her Master’s Degree in Chemistry in 2006 from Sapienza University of Rome, where she also pursued her Ph.D. in Materials Science in 2009.
Starting from 2010, she worked as a post-doc researcher at the Department of Chemistry of the Sapienza University of Rome, focusing her research activity in the field of bio and nanotechnology. She is working on the synthesis and biosynthesis of micro and nanostructured biomaterials for biotechological applications, such as injectable self-assembling peptides to be used as scaffolds for cell growth and differentiation or in drug delivery applications. Also, she has a significant experience in the synthesis of biopolymeric nanomaterials for drug and gene delivery in animal and plant cells or as immobilization carriers for industrial enzymes. The preparation of these materials is carried out using innovative techniques, including microfluidic approaches. Her research activity also deals with sustainability and circular economy, with the use of Green Solvents for the selective extraction of bioactive molecules and biopolymers from plant or microbial biomass. She has participated in numerous national and international research projects, including the European project RES URBIS, the ABASA project funded by Lazio Innova and the PRIN project ASSEMBLe.
She is a member of the CIB (Consorzio Interuniversitario per le Biotecnologie) consortium, as well as of the Research Center for Applied Sciences to the safeguard of Environment and Cultural Heritage (CIABC) of the Sapienza University. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the journals Micro (Editor: MDPI) and BioMed Research International (Editor: Hindawi).
She has coauthored 65 publications, 5 book chapters, 1 patent and 53 contributions to national or international conferences, with more than 2.000 citations and an H-index of 27 (source: Google Scholar).
