Thesis title: HYPOVITAMINOSIS D IN ALBANIA: EPIDEMIOLOGY, RISK FACTORS, AND INTERVENTION STRATEGIES

The body depends on Vitamin D to maintain calcium-phosphorus balance and bone health although its functions reach into immune system and endocrine and metabolic processes. Research shows that the sun-rich country of Albania experiences vitamin D deficiency among groups who should not be at risk. The observed paradox needs evaluation of multiple elements which affect public health results by considering how people behave and what they eat and the conditions they live in and the rules that exist. This study was developed in response to the need for local, evidence-based data on vitamin D status in Albania. The study focuses on the Vlora district to determine vitamin D deficiency rates and seasonal patterns and social factors that influence its occurrence and to evaluate current practices against international standards. The study provides evidence to create clinical guidelines and public health policies because it shows a critical nutritional deficiency in the area. The researchers express their gratitude to healthcare professionals and laboratory teams and research participants who made this study possible. Their joint work has produced a complete evaluation system which unites direct observations from the field with strict biochemical testing methods.
