Research: ‘A renewing art’: converging modernisms in the work of Barbara Guest
Hal Coase, PhD student in Studies in English Literature, Language and Translation (curriculum in literary and cultural studies), graduated in English language and literature from the University of Oxford in July 2015, with a thesis on the poetry of the Vorticist movement. He completed his MA at the Center for New Writing, University of Manchester, in 2018, with research on W.B. Sebald. His criticism has been published in PN Review, and academic work in Text Matters, RIAS, and Revue française d'études américaines and Status Quaestionis (forthcoming). His poetry have been published in The White Review, and anthologised by Carcanet Press (2020) and Prototype Press (2023). He has written extensively for the theatre in the UK, and his plays have been performed in the USA and Canada. His research interests include modernism, lyric poetry, contemporary British theatre, postwar American poetry, poetics, affect theory, and the history of critique.
