Research Project Abstract
This research project studies the urban movements active in the cities of Seoul and Rome. The goal is to understand the significance that these movements assume in their respective social contexts and to analyse, from a global perspective, possible commonalities and differences . The reference framework is the Commons theory, which is useful for analysing the social discourse that these movements carry, and for framing the conflict in the urban space. Specifically, the aim is to analyse the gap between the theoretical discourse, belonging to the academic dimension, and the social actions of urban movements, belonging to the dimension of the practices of social activism. The methodology is based on a comparative approach oriented towards the study of selected empirical cases in Seoul and Rome. Furthermore, the research prefers an ethnographic-qualitative approach whose main research tools are the participant observation, exploratory interviews and semi-structured in-depth interviews.

Keywords: urban movements; commons theory; right to the city; conflict in the urban space; dialogue between East and West.
