Research: Language and identity in Okinawan literature from the Meiji period to the first post-war period (working title)

Abstract:

The project aims to analyze the relationship between Ryukyu literature and identity focusing on the qualitative and quantitative use of local language, and analyzing characters and contexts in which the works take place. It will be examined literary works ranging from the Meiji period to the Second World War in order to deepen the understanding and analysis of how authors perceive themselves, their homeland and the new century.

Fields of interests: japanese language, sociolinguistics, modern literature, Okinawa, minority literature, Japan

11/21 - today: PhD candidate in Civilizations of Asia and Africa, Sapienza University of Rome.
Research project: Language and identity in Okinawan literature from Meiji period to 1945;

09/2020: Master’s Degree in Oriental Languages and Civilizations at Sapienza University of Rome with the thesis entitled: "The linguistic varieties of the Japanese archipelago: the case of Ryukyu".

03/2017: Bachelor’s degree in Oriental Languages and Civilizations at Sapienza University of Rome with the thesis entitled: "Salaryman" (2005) by Kazunobu Takagi: the work ethic in Japanese companies.

24/01/2023 – 26/01/2023: Course in “Internalization of archivistic studies in Japan”, Ōita-ken Ritsu Sentetsu Shiryōkan (Ōita, Giappone). The course was aimed at studying medieval material from the Sentetsu Shiryōkan and training in methods of conservation of ancient paper;

05/2022: Course in Peer Mentoring, Sapienza University of Rome;
