Research areas and main scientific and teaching activities:
Giuliana Fiorentino works on the Italian syntax both from a synchronic and a diachronic perspective and she has adopted a sociolinguistic approach to language use, especially in comparing spoken and written language. Recently she devoted to the analysis of language in computer-mediated communication and to methodological issues in digital technologies assisted learning. Finally, she is involved in educational research, evaluating methods in teaching grammar to mother tongues students.
She has been approved in the ASN in 2013 as Full Professor of Linguistics.
Among her list of about 100 publications, she has published 3 monographs (the last one in 2018) and she is the Editor of 6 books (the last one in 2018). She published about 25 articles in reviews and 45 chapters or papers in books. She also contributed to the Enciclopedia dell’Italiano edited by Raffaele Simone in 2011 with 10 lemmas. She has participated in several conferences both in Italy and abroad.
Since 2007 she started to realize a special project, called Olimpiadi della lingua italiana, which is a school competition related to the knowledge of the Italian language and grammar, but also focus on stylistic and pragmatic aspects of language use. It addresses Italian students and Italian schools abroad. The competition in 2017-2018 is at its 11th edition.
Giuliana Fiorentino is also involved in training activities for teachers both at the university (she teaches Italian language and didactic methodologies at the Scienze della Formazione Primaria course) and at the Training Courses organised by schools, or by the Regional School Office (USR Molise), and finally she has been invited to teach at the Fondazione I Lincei per la Scuola, in Molise and in Campania. She has also been a member of the GISCEL association and responsible for the local unit (GISCEL Molise).
