Thesis title: Trattamento multidisciplinare del paziente special needs
The dental management of Special Needs patients represents one of the most complex and meaningful challenges in clinical practice. These pediatric and adult patients, affected by physical, cognitive, or neuromotor disabilities, as well as systemic conditions, require a personalized and multidisciplinary therapeutic approach, shared by a team of specialists also trained in disability management. The experience gained through the “Sorrisi Speciali” project of the Pediatric Dentistry and Odontostomatology Unit at Policlinico Umberto I, in collaboration with the Implant-Prosthetic UOSD, has highlighted the importance of an integrated, coordinated, and continuous care pathway that supports patients from childhood through adulthood. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of a multistep and multidisciplinary approach, underlining the need to design dedicated and individualized treatment plans for patients who, due to congenital or acquired conditions, present clinical, psychological, and relational complexities that deeply influence dental care. In this context, prosthetic rehabilitation plays a central role, as it restores function, aesthetics, autonomy, and psychological well-being, contributing concretely to improving the patient’s overall quality of life.
