Franco Mastroddi is full Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, University of Rome `` La Sapienza " since 1998. He is involved on teaching activity since 1996 and is actually teaching on the second level degree on Aeronautical Engineering with teaching assignments for courses in Aeronautical Structures and Aeroelasticity. He is chair of the Academic Council of Aerospace Engineering at Sapienza University.

- In May 1989 he obtained from the University of Rome "La Sapienza" University degree in Aeronautical Engineering with a thesis entitled to Boundary Element Method for Aerodynamic and Aeroelastic Analysis of Wings and Rotors in Hover and Frequency Domain not reporting a score of 110 / 110 cum laude .
- In November 1989 obtained a license to practice as an engineer.
- Since June '89 to May '90 is the winner of a scholarship Aeritalia delivered at the Aerospace Department, University of Rome "La Sapienza" on unsteady aerodynamic loads in transonic regime .
- In the period November 1990 - February 1993 attended the courses of the sixth cycle of the PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Rome "La Sapienza".
- Since June 1992 he is researcher on Aerospace Structures, Faculty Engineering, University of Rome La Sapienza.
- In February 1994 supports successful final examination for the award of the title of Doctor of Philosophy with a thesis entitled “Aeroservoelasticity: nonlinear problems”.
- Since March 1996 he has been placed in the role of researchers in Aerospace Structures (later reclassified as SSD ING-IND/04 ) at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Rome La Sapienza
- From 1 November 1998, Associate Professor in Aerospace Structures, Faculty of Engineering, University of Rome La Sapienza.
- From September 2019, full professor in Aerospace Structures, Faculty of Engineering, University of Rome La Sapienza.

He is currently involved in research activities on aero-servo-elasticity modelling, nonlinear dynamical systems and nonlinear aeroelasticity, dynamic and structural optimization, identification of aeroelastic systems, integrated multi-disciplinary optimization and multi-objective optimization. He is author and co - author of several papers presented at international conferences and published on referred journals. For many of these journals as Journal of Sounds and Vibration, Journal of Fluids and Structures, AIAA Journal, AIAA Journal of Spacecraft and Rockets, Computers and Structures, CEAS Aeronautical Journal, CEAS Space Journal, journal of Aerospace Science and Technology, Journal of Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, he lends function of a referee.
