My project proposes an in-depth study of Indonesian world jazz, focusing on the city of Bandung and the musical group Krakatau. Emerging in the early 1990s, this genre represents a musical syncretism between jazz-fusion and Sundanese musical traditions. The aim of the research is to analyze the origins and evolution of this transnational musical phenomenon, exploring the social and cultural dynamics that have shaped it, as well as the technical-musical aspects of this fusion. The project seeks to adopt an interdisciplinary approach, combining cultural studies with a detailed musicological analysis of the pieces, investigating the process of hybridization between local instruments and idioms and jazz-fusion.
