Federica Visconti (Naples - Italy, 1971) graduated with honors in Architecture in 1995. She obtained her MBA degree in 1997 at the Stoà Business School (Asfor accredited) in 1997. In 2002 she obtained a PhD in Urban Design at the University of Naples Federico II and, in 2003, at the same University, the two-year Specialization in Architectural and Urban Design. She was adjunct professor at the faculties of Architecture and Engineering in Naples from 2002 to 2009 and, in the same years, of Landscape Architecture at the Suor Orsola Benincasa University Institute. She is research fellow from 2009 to 2010, currently associate professor of Architectural Composition in the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II (since 2011). She was a member of the Board of the PhD program in Urban Design and Planning and elected member of the Board of the Department of Architecture and of the Council of the Polytechnic and Basic Sciences School of the University of Naples (2013-2016 and 2016-2018). She is currently Coordinator of the Bachelor's Degree Course in Architectural Sciences of the DiARC of Naples (since 2016) and member of the PhD program in Architecture and Construction_DrACo of La Sapienza University of Rome (from the XXXIII cycle). She is member, for the Aracne publisher, of the Scientific Committee of the magazine EDA_Esempi di Architettura and Director of the “QA_Quaderni di Architettura” series and member of the Scientific Committee of “dell' Interno Architettonico” series of ESI_Edizioni Scientifiche Italiane (director Agostino Bossi). For Aión publisher in Florence, she is member of the Scientific Committee of the “Città e Paesaggi Meridiani” series and of the International Study Center of the magazine Aión. For CLEAN publisher in Naples, she is member of the editorial board of the series "Theoria, Architettura, Città" and "MMA_Maestri e Mostre di Architettura" (director Fritz Neumeyer) as well as Director (with R. Capozzi) of the "moMa_Moderni Maestri" series. She is also member of the Scientific Committees of the journals BLOOM and A&Pcontinuidad, journal of the Facultad de Arquitectura Planeamiento y Diseño of the Universidad Nacional de Rosario-Argentina, as well as of the series Materialien zu Geschichte, Theorie und Entwurf städtischer Architektur (published first by Ernst Wasmuth Verlag, Tübingen Berlin, Germany and now by Walther König Verlag, Köln / Berlin, Germany).
She was coordinator of Research Units in the APQ Mediterranean International Cooperation Program - ArcheoURB sub-project, funded by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Economic Development in collaboration with the University of Cairo and the Cadi Ayyad University of Marrakech in 2010-11 and member of the DiARC research unit within the METROPOLIS Project within the STRESS Competence Center Program_Technology and Research Development for Seismically Safe and Eco-Sustainable Construction. She is the coordinator of numerous Scientific Cooperation Agreements for the University of Naples with foreign universities (UNR_Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Argentina; RWTH_University of Aachen, Germany; Fachhochschule of Potsdam, Germany; TU of Dortmund, Germany; BME_Budapest University of Technology and Economics, Hungary ; Inje University, South Korea; UTM_Universitatea Tehnică in Moldovei, Moldavia) or member of the relevant Joint Committees (UNL_Universidad del Litoral, Argentina; UP_Universidad de Palermo, Argentina; Universitatea Ion Mincu of Bucaresti, Romania).
Since 1996, the year of obtaining the qualification as professional architect, she has carried out with continuity for fifteen years a professional activity mainly in the field of public works, in single or associated form. The projects drawn up as part of the following competitions have received prizes or awards: National Architecture Competition "Once upon a time ... the Casa a Botte". Restoration project, functional reuse and arrangement of the external spaces of a row of rural houses in Monticello (CE) - first prize, group leader: F. Visconti - 1995; competition for the design of social housing buildings within the after-earthquake program by the Municipality of Avellino - winning project - group leader: U. Siola - 2004; International competition “Urbanistic Study Durres City Central Zone” - second prize - group leader: U. Siola - 2005; competition for ideas for an urban project for new facilities and square in the Municipality of S. Antimo (NA) - winning project - group leader: F. Visconti - 2006; International competition of ideas for the redevelopment of the coastal line of Portici (NA) and the Granatello harbor - winning project - group leader: E. Guazzoni - 2007; International competition of ideas “Salerno Porta Ovest” - second prize - group leader: U. Siola - 2007; International design competition for the reconstruction of the Berlin castle - admitted to the second phase - group leader: Max Dudler - 2008; International design competition "the city of children" for the redevelopment of the former factory by the municipality of Frattamaggiore (NA) - third prize - group leader: U. Siola - 2009; competition of ideas "ImmaginaMIRANDOLA" - Area 2 / North-East. New uses for the historic center, by the Municipality of Mirandola - second prize - group leader: U. Siola - 2013; Competition for the architectural design of the Wroclaw Court of Appeal in Poland - first prize - group leader: U. Siola - 2015; two-phase international design competition for the construction of the Agri-food Excellence School Pole announced by the Municipality of Ariano Irpino - fifth prize - group leader: SAAB soc. coop. - 2017.
In the academic field, she participated in some important projects under scientific cooperation agreement including that of the CNR Research Area headquarters in Bagnoli and for the restoration of the Swedish observatory headquarters in Anacapri to be used as an international research center (1999-2000 ) and the one for the new headquarters of the BioGeM Research Consortium in Ariano Irpino (2000-2007, built project) as well as two editions of the Piranesi Prix de Rome_Design archeology: 2016, International Call for via dei Fori Imperiali. Competition on the theme of the redevelopment and re-signification of the urban axis, the understanding and usability of the archaeological, architectural and urban heritage, connected to the monumental road from Piazza Venezia to the Colosseum in Rome, group leader Valeria Pezza and Uwe Schröder; 2018, International Call for the Grande Villa Adriana, on the theme of the landscape, architectural and museographic redevelopment of the territory included in the Unesco Buffer Zone of Villa Adriana, between the archaeological site and the course of the Aniene river, group leader Valeria Pezza, Joao Gomes da Silva, Paolo Portoghesi.
The main research lines concern, over the years, "rational architecture and new realism" - the deepening of a methodological-rational hypothesis for architecture starting from the revival of the reflections inherited from the theoretical elaboration of the Italian debate of sixties and seventies of the twentieth century -, "the redevelopment of public housing districts of the twentieth century" - according to a line of work that tries to reconcile the legitimate requests of restoration, functional and structural adaptation and energy saving, with a sustainability intended above all related to the architectural and urban form - "the relationship between archeology and architecture in the stratified city in the Mediterranean" - line developed in the field of theoretical and applied research as well as through numerous didactic opportunities -.
