Thesis title: Verso una transizione non solo ecologica: teorie, politiche e pratiche per un’industria audiovisiva sostenibile
This thesis explores the role of audiovisual media in facilitating the transition toward a society that embraces ecological and sustainability values. The research is structured into three main sections. The first provides a comprehensive review of the literature in Environmental Humanities, with a particular emphasis on the fields of ecocinema and ecomedia. The second traces the emergence and evolution of public policies related to the environment, sustainability, and audiovisual media at international, European, and national levels. The third applies the theoretical framework established in the previous sections to analyze the strategies and policies adopted by the audiovisual industry over the past decade in its pursuit of eco-sustainability.
Within this context, the thesis proposes a public policy model developed in Italy, designed for potential replication at broader territorial levels. The study concludes by arguing that this model is not only transferable to other industries but also adaptable for the promotion of various public interest issues.
Situated within the field of Media Industry Studies, this research draws on a range of sources, including academic literature, regulatory texts issued at international, EU, national, and regional levels, and official data published by relevant institutions across these three areas of inquiry. Additionally, it incorporates the analysis of unpublished data provided by key stakeholders involved in the most significant initiatives examined, as well as insights from numerous interviews with industry professionals, conducted during courses, conferences, and workshops organized specifically for this research.
