Education, titles and research activities:
Fabio Giulii Capponi received his Electrical Engineering and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” Rome, Italy, in 1994 and 1998, respectively. Since 1996 he joined the Department of Electrical Engineering, University of Rome “La Sapienza”, and currently he is Full Professor in the Dept. of Astronautical, Electrical and Energetic Engineering. In 1994 he passed the examination to become a Registered Professional Engineer.

Scientific Activities
- March 2003: winner of a two months NATO fellowship, spent at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA).
- From January 2003 to August 2004: Visiting Scholar at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, in order to conduct research on the two-year program “Instructional Laboratory Modernization for the Electric Machines and Power Electronics Program” (program funding: $ 1.500.000).
- July 2011: Visiting Professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland.

- Since 2003: exchange officer of an Agreement of Direct Cultural and Scientific Cooperation between the University of Roma “La Sapienza” and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
- Since 2005: exchange officer of the Socrates/Erasmus EU exchange programs for the Department of Electrical Engineering.
- Since 2012: Local Coordinator of the international Master degree, “Erasmus Mundus Master Course on Sustainable Transportation and Electric Power Systems”, financed by the EU.

- 2008 – 2016: Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications.
- Member of the International Scientific Committee for the European Symposium on Super Capacitors & Applications (ESSCAP).
- General Chairman at the 3rd European Symposium on Super Capacitors & Applications, ESSCAP’08, Roma (Italy), November 6-7, 2008.
- Member of the Organizing Committee for the 35th IEEE Industry Applications Society Annual Meeting, Roma (Italy), September 2000.

- 2014: Co-recipient of IEEE IAS Industrial Drives Committee First Prize Paper Award

- From 2017 to 2020: Chair of Awards Sub-committee per IEEE IAS Industrial Drives Committee
- Session Chairman and Session Organizer in several international conferences.


- Referee, for the Italian Ministry of University and Research, of the PRIN 2008 Projects.
- From 2017 to 2021: Expert evaluator of the Horizon projects.

He has been involved, also as coordinator, in several research projects funded both from institutions such as EU, MIUR, CNR, ENEA and companies as Ansaldo Ricerche, Semikron, SIEI, RFI, Teuco, Ansaldo Breda etc.

He is author of more than one hundred papers, presented at international conferences or published on scientific journals.
