Research: Inflections of U.S contemporary autobiography: Ethnic Autofiction, Autotheory, and Autobiographical graphic novel

Emanuele Battiniello is a PhD candidate at the International PhD programme in English Literatures, Language and Translation (SELLT), curriculum in American Studies, at Sapienza University of Rome. In 2024, he earned a Master’s degree in European and American Languages and Literatures from L’Orientale University of Naples, with a dissertation titled “In the body where everything has a price I was a beggar on my knees: Autofiction, Corporeità e Postmemoria nelle opere di Ocean Vuong”, after previously completing a Bachelor's degree at the same institution. His doctoral research investigates contemporary autobiographical writing in the United States through the lens of the “marketability of the self,” with particular attention to the genres of ethnic autofiction, graphic novels, and autotheory. His academic interests include ethnic minority literatures in the Anglophone world (prose and poetry), queer theory, postcolonial studies, and gender studies.
