Emanuela Borgia is Associate Professor of Classical Archaeology and Archaeology of the Roman Provinces in the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia, Dipartimento di Scienze dell'Antichità (SSD L-Ant/07), Sapienza, Università di Roma, since November 2020 (since 2012 she was Researcher and Adjunct Professor in the same Department). She is also member of the teaching body of the Ph.D. School of Archaeology (Classical Archaeology) of the same University.
After having earned the Ph.D. in Oriental Archaeology in the University of Rome Sapienza in 2003, she was researcher and contract professor of Archaeology of Roman Provinces in the years 2005-2010 at the same University. In 2000 she obtained the Diploma di Specializzazione in Archeologia (Classical Archaeology) at the Università degli Studi di Roma La Sapienza and the Diplôme d’études approfondies (DEA) at the Université de Provence (Aix-en-Provence/Marseille).

Since 2020 she is Director of the Archaeological Excavation of the late Roman and Early Medieval Necropolis of Castel Sozzio (Civitella D’Agliano, VT) with the Concession by the SABAP per l’Area Metropolitana di Roma, la Provincia di Viterbo e l’Etruria Meridionale.
She participated with leading roles to various archaeological excavations in Italy (Rome: Portico d’Ottavia, Teatro di Marcello, Circo Massimo; Gabii; Ostia Antica; Viterbo; Corcolle; Trigoria; Vibo Valentia), and to archaeological missions abroad in Greece (Scuola Archeologica Italiana di Atene, Creta, Haghia Triada, Festos), in Turkey (Missione della Sapienza at Elaiussa Sebaste 1996-2013 and Missione dell’Università degli Studi della Tuscia at Iasos 2011-2013), in Egypt (Missione dell’Istituto Papirologico G. Vitelli at Antinoupolis 2014-present), in Iraq (Missione della Sapienza at Paikuli 2019-present).

She is currently coordinator of the following National and International projects:
- Necropolis of Castel Sozzio (VT) excavation and research;
- Hadrian’s wall and the frontier of the Roman Empire, with Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery Trust, Carlisle, UK;
- Study of the pottery from the Roman cistern at Spoletino (VT);
- Research on Archaeology, History of Art and Ancient History of Anatolia and the Mediterranean, with Koç University, Suna & İnan Kıraç Akdeniz Medeniyetleri Araştırma Merkezi (AKMED) of Antalya.
She is currently member of the following National and International research groups:
- Excavation and Research at Antinoupolis (Egypt);
- Excavation and Research at Paikuli (Iraq, Kurdistan);
- Atlas of the Ancient Near East (AANE), Sapienza University.

Author of several scientific papers and books, she participated to manifold national and international congresses. She addressed her research mainly on:
- History and archaeology of the Roman Provinces;
- Urban planning and Architecture in the Eastern Provinces of Roman Empire (Asia Minor, Syria, Egypt);
- Roman and Late Roman architectural decoration;
- Roman and Late Roman pottery in Italy and in the Roman Provinces;
- Greek and Roman epigraphy in the Roman and Byzantine East;
- Migration and mobility in the ancient Mediterranean.
