Elena Ogliani is a PhD student in the course of Architecture and Construction (XXXVII cycle), curriculum Architectural and Urban Composition, belonging to the Department of Architecture and Design at La Sapienza University in Rome. She got the professional architectural training license in July 2021. She obtained the Master’s Degree in Architecture (Conservation) with honors at La Sapienza University in December 2020, with a thesis entitled: "Continuity and transformation of living. Reading of the historical residential heritage between Italy, Portugal and Brazil", obtaining the right of publication and the mention of "Excellent graduate" for the a.a. 2019-2020. She previously obtained the bachelor degree in Architectural Design in September 2018, at the Mantova Campus of the Politecnico di Milano, with a thesis about the evolution of the Portuense bourgeois house, outcome of the final year in Erasmus at the Universidade Lusófona in Porto (Portugal). She has previously obtained the Diploma of Classical High School at the Institute of Higher Education Galileo Galilei, Ostiglia (Mantua).
The research activity is mainly focused on architectural and urban composition as well as restoration and conservation, on the study of housing types and urban morphology, always deepening the relationship between old and new in urban expansions and in its relationship with the built environment. Her doctoral thesis focuses on the relationship between rural and urban and it is currently entitled "Models of rural architecture: settlements modalities of the not-urban contemporary".
She currently results the winner of the “starting research”-type 1 funding aimed at publishing a monographic text on the "Città Giardino Aniene in Rome, hypothesis of transformation", introduced during the 6th ISUFitaly International conference in Bologna (June 2022). The research effort is also characterized by participation in conferences and seminars, including the Seminar of studies: Centenary of the birth of Reyener Banham, in the section "Technique as language", or The Issum Experiment, Innovative teaching and practicing urban form.
The PhD student works collaboratively in professional studies after some training placements between Rome (Ottaviani Associati) and Porto (JFCG Arquitectos Associados Lda).
She is currently a tutor in the two courses of Architectural Design IV held by Professor Dina Nencini. In addition, she has been involved in some project activities, including the National Consultation PROSA_Projects of schools, as a member of the design group coordinated by Professor Dina Nencini and the activity for the feasibility project of the municipal and ASL pavilions, as part of the PNRR - Plan Integrated project about Santa Maria della Pietà. Both during doctoral activities and previously, she attended Design Workshops, including the most recent at Palazzolo Acreide (September 2022) with the group of the Doctorate DRACo on the area of Syracuse. She also attended the International Summer School of Urban Morphology ISSUM in June 2022 and she took part at the Porto Academy workshop in the study and design group coordinated by Nicolas Dorval-Bory in July 2019.
She works as a tutor at the Faculty of Architecture, after having previously carried out other activities of university collaboration and volunteering related to architecture, art, and cinema events.
She speaks English (level B2-C1), Portuguese (level B1) and Spanish (level A2).
