Research: Landscape archaeology in the Reno Valley: comprehensive study of the population dynamics and road network in the area
The research focuses on the Reno valley (Tuscan Emilian Appennines, south – west of Bologna) and its main tributaries, in order to deepen the dynamics of the ancient population in the territory, as well as the evolution of road infrastructures. The study, which is part of other wide-ranging projects focused on the reconstruction of the ancient landscape in this area, focuses mainly on the Roman age and the transformations compared to this historical period, with a particular look at the processes taking place in the middle and lower Reno valley.
My academic training took place at the University of Bologna, where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Humanities – classical curriculum (presenting a thesis in Roman Epigraphy entitled "Regium Lepidi: documents of Roman religiosity", supervisor prof. Daniela Rigato) and a Master's degree in Archaeology and Cultures of the Ancient World (presenting a thesis in Archaeology of the Roman city, "The sacred landscape of Suasa. Cults and sanctuaries of a mid-Adriatic municipality", supervisor prof. Enrico Giorgi, co-supervisors prof. Simona Antolini and Francesca Cenerini).
At the same university I then attended and obtained the diploma of the School of Specialization in Archaeological Heritage, with a thesis entitled "Archaeology of landscapes in the Reno valley: the archaeological map of Casalecchio di Reno", with supervisor prof. Enrico Giorgi, co-supervisors prof. Andrea Gaucci and dr. Vanessa Poli (SABAP Bologna).
Over the years I have participated in several excavation and field - survey campaigns with the University of Bologna, mainly in Lazio (Ostia, Civitavecchia, Terracina) and in Marche (Suasa, Monte Rinaldo); I have also worked in preventive archaeology sites in Emilia-Romagna, in emergency excavations of pre-protohistoric and Roman times.
