Research: The diacritical and the imminent. Sense and language in Merleau-Ponty’s ontology of the sensible

The project aims to analyse and develop the peculiar concept of the sense that emerges in Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s works and courses following to Phénoménologie de la perception, trying to reveal, starting from these works, l’impensé of a phenomenology of the sense that will find in the connection of aesthetic and linguistic (perception and expression) its manifestation. In this context, the project will try to bring out and organise the original idea, compared to the earlier works, that Merleau-Ponty suggests on the sense, tracing its genesis and development, and analysing the specific role played by the language in the birth of the sense. To that end, it will be developed an inquiry of the complex relationship of the chiasma nature-culture, which contributes in a substantial way to structure both the theme of the sense and that of language in a close relationship with the concept of institution. Furthermore, the project will manage to show how, the entire process of maturation and structuration that leads to the ontological direction of the French philosopher latest works, is deeply influenced and indebted to, in its fundamental lines, the meditations developed about sense and language, as well as, by the Saussurean conception of diacritic, pivot of the analysis of the being.
