Daniele Niedda is Associate Professor of English at UNINT, University of International Studies in Rome. He is Vice-President of the International Beckford Society. He was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Iowa (1989-1991) and Visiting Fellow at St Catherine's College, University of Oxford (2023-2024). He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society for 18th Century Studies and of the Editorial Board of the journal Fictions. Studi sulla narratività. He was in the teaching board of the international PhD programme ‘Intercultural Relations and International Management’ at UNINT (2018-2023). He was the Director of the 1st level master’s degree in "Translation and adaptation of audiovisual and multimedia works for dubbing and subtitling" (UNINT, 2015-2023) and the President of the Steering Committee of the Faculty of Interpreting and Translation (UNINT, 2020-2023). His interest in the field of travel and essay writing marked the beginning of his scholarly career, which focused on cultural phenomena from early modern to eighteenth-century England with a cultural-historical critical perspective (see his book on Joseph Addison and essays on the Grand Tour). Subsequently, this line of research combined with other scientific interests (such as fiction, landscape, Anglo-Italian relations, aesthetics and philosophy of language), leading to in-depth studies of William Beckford and Edmund Burke (to whom he has dedicated two books). These two writers have also been the subject of two major reception studies. More recently, his research has extended to the English nineteenth century, in particular Benjamin Disraeli as a novelist, with some forays into the contemporary age (Julian Barnes). He attempts to combine literary criticism and philosophical thought also in these projects (George Eliot).
