Thesis title: Un paesaggio in transizione: il Basso Egitto tra VI e VIII secolo

This thesis aims to reconstruct the topographical evolution of Lower Egypt — with special attention to the Nile Delta — between the Late Antique and Early Islamic periods (6th–8th centuries), paying particular attention to the settlement network and hydrographic mobility channels. Concerning the Early Islamic period, the analysis focuses on the period from the Muslim conquest (641/642) to the end of the Umayyad dynasty (750). In particular, the thesis investigates: (1) the administrative reorganisation of Lower Egypt; (2) settlement continuity and discontinuity; (3) the main changes in the Delta's hydrographic network between the 6th and 8th centuries.
