Davide Torri is researcher (RTDB), L-OR 17 (Philosophies, Religions and History of India and Central Asia) at the Department of History, Anthropology, Religions and Performing Arts, University of Rome La Sapienza. He graduated in Asian Languages and Literatures (Hindi) at the University of Venice Ca’ Foscari (1999), with a dissertation on the religion of the Lepchas of Sikkim (India). He has a PhD in History of Religions from the University of Napoli L’Orientale, with a dissertation on shamanism and Buddhism in Nepal. From 2009 to 2013 he has taught Anthropology of Religions and other subjects at the University of Chester (UK). From 2013 to 2016, he was a post-doc researcher at the Cluster of Excellence Asia and Europe in a Global Context, Karl Jaspers Centre for Advanced Transcultural Studies, University of Heidelberg (Germany). In Heidelberg, he was involved in the research project “Buddhism between South Asia and Tibet. Negotiating Religious Boundaries in Doctrine and Practice”, besides teaching several classes on Anthropology of South Asia and religions of the Himalayan region. In 2017 he was Kate Hämburger Kolleg visiting research fellow at the Center for religious Studies (CERES) of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (Germany). In 2018 he was researcher at the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS), university of Heidelberg. In 2019 he was substitute-professor and head of department ad-interim of the Department of Ethnology of the South Asia Institute (SAI), University of Heidelberg. He is currently the Secretary of the International Society for the Academic Research on Shamanism (ISARS)
