TEACHING:
Aerospace propulsion courses. Present teaching: Solid Rocket Motors (MS), Space Propulsion (MS), Space Propulsion Laboratory (BS). Didactic and scientific coordinator of the European professional Master for graduate students in “Space Transportation Systems: Launchers and Re-entry vehicles" of Sapienza University of Rome. Invited lectures: von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics (Belgium), Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency and Tohoku University (Japan), Xi’an Aerospace Propulsion Institute of CASC (China).

AREAS OF RESEARCH:
Modeling and computational fluid dynamic analysis of high-speed high-temperature chemically reacting turbulent flows with particular interest towards: gas-surface interaction modeling for thermo-ablative materials, catalycity and ablation phenomena, hypersonics and atmospheric reentry, solid rocket motors nozzle erosion, liquid rocket engines thrust chamber heat transfer, hybrid rocket engines internal ballistics and fuel regression rate, coupled flow/material problems and conjugate heat transfer. Numerical solution of RANS equation with complex wall ablative boundary conditions in solid rocket motor nozzles, hybrid rocket engines, and reentry vehicles. Models and equations for surface thermochemistry and near surface thermophysics of aerodynamically heated thermal protection materials (TPS). Transient in-depth computational solid mechanics of TPS materials.

PUBLICATIONS:
20 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and more than 50 papers in conference proceedings.

Best paper award in solid rockets by AIAA (2011).
