Thematic area: Genetics
SSD: BIO/18

EDUCATION:
15/12/2021: Bachelor degree in Biological Science (Grade: 110/110 cum laude)
19/10/2023: Master degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology (Grade: 110/110 cum laude)
Thesis title: Characterization of UV radiation response in the model organism Drosophila melanogaster

PhD PROJECT
My PhD project is to study the biological effects of microgravity and ionizing radiation in Drosophila model organism in order to identify conserved cellular response to these type of stressors, since they could have a serious impact on astronauts health during space missions. At this purpose, I will treat Drosophila embryos and evaluate their ability to complete development and give rise to adult flies with respect to control not-treated embryos.. Adult flies will be subjected to viability tests, survival and fertility analysis in order to evaluate how these stressor impacts on Drosophila physiology. Cytological analysis and immunofluorescence experiments will allow the evaluation of treatment effect at the cellular level. Moreover, I would like to carry out RNA seq experiments to find genes whose modulation is involved in cellular response to altered gravity and radiation conditions.

SEMINARS:
14-16/10/2023 (Cortona): Joint Meeting AGI_SIMAG. Poster: Effects of UV radiation on the model organism Drosophila melanogaster
