Research:

Chiara Mancini got her Bachelor Degree in Aerospace Engineering in 2017 defending the thesis "Damage identification of a beam: Wavelet Analysis" in Applied Mechanics. She then completed her Master Degree in Nanotechnology Engineering in 2021 defending the thesis "Optical Vortex Scanning Microscope: principles and applications" in Microscopies and Nanocharacterization Techniques. Right after the Master Degree, she started her PhD program in the academic year 2021-2022 in "Mathematical Models for Engineering, Electromagnetics and Nanosciences" (Electromagnetics course) of the Basic and Applied Sciences for Engineering (SBAI) Department.
The research program aims to exploit the plasmonic resonance phenomenon for optical spectroscopic characterization of semiconductors. More in particular, the activities are based on performing two Tip-Enhanced Optical Spectroscopy techniques (i.e. Raman Spectroscopy and PhotoLuminescence) for strained-silicon technology-based devices and 2D materials (mostly graphene and Transition Metal Dichalcogenides) characterization. The research is framed in the "more than Moore" context for micro- and nano-electronic applications and development.
Simultaneously to TEOS, Raman Spectroscopy is another key topic of this PhD: this technique is applied to several research fields, such as biotechnology or fine art items conservation.
