Abstract:

This project aims to investigate the intercultural and interlinguistic dynamics between Imperial Russia and Imperial China, through the commercial avampost system of Kyakhta and Maimachen, between 1727 and 1903. The research falls within the field of Frontier and Regional Studies, with an emphasis on the human and socio-cultural components. The approach adopted combines social history tools with prosopographic and quantitative methodologies, with the aim of constructing a collective scientific biography of the actors of the frontier and analysing the cultural, social and linguistic composition of these two frontier spaces.
