Antonio Musarra was born in Genoa on April 22, 1983.
He has been an Associate Professor of Medieval History at Sapienza University of Rome since June 17, 2022.
He holds a degree in History from the University of Genoa (2007) and a degree in Religious Sciences from the Istituto Superiore di Scienze Religiose of Genoa-Facoltà Teologica dell’Italia Settentrionale (2012), a diploma in Archivistics, Paleography and Diplomatics from the State Archives of Genoa (2012), and a PhD in Historical Sciences from the University of San Marino (2012) with a thesis on political, economic and cultural relations between Genoa and the Holy Land in the second half of the 13th century. 2016-2017 Ahmanson Fellow at Villa I Tatti (The Harvard University Center for Italian Renaissance Studies), Adjunct Lecturer in Latin Palaeography at the Dipartimento di storia, scienze dell’uomo e della formazione, University of Sassari (2017-2018), Research Fellow at the Dipartimento di eccellenza di Storia, Archeologia, Geografia, Arte, Spettacolo (SAGAS), University of Florence (2017-2018; 2018-2019), researcher in Medieval History (type b) at the Dipartimento di Storia, Antropologia, Religioni, Arte, Spettacolo of Sapienza Università di Roma (2019-2022), has to his credit an extensive participation in national and international conferences, at which he has presented the results of his research focused on the History of the medieval Mediterranean, with particular emphasis on the History of the Crusades and the Latin East, the History of navigation and naval warfare, the History of travel and pilgrimage, the History of Franciscanism and Minoritism, and the political, economic and social History of Italian cities in the Middle Ages.
