Research: Development of innovative catalysts without metals of Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) and/or with PGM recycled
Alessio Varotto (Anzio, 1998) is a PhD student in Electrical Engineering at the Department of Astronautical, Electrical and Energy Engineering of the "La Sapienza" University of Rome. He graduated in Chemistry in 2022 with a thesis entitled "Electrodeposition and spectroscopic characterization of zinc-based electrodes for the electroreduction of CO2".
He is currently working on the development of innovative catalysts that make use of catalysts with recycled PGMs or without these precious metals in order to catalyze the Dry Reforming Methane (DRM) reaction. The research work is aimed at obtaining efficient catalysts, with a high product yield and minimal use of environmentally critical materials.
