Alessio Tamburrano, born in 1978, received the Laurea, summa cum laude, and the Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rome "La Sapienza", Italy in 2003 and 2007, respectively. He also received the Master in “Electromagnetic Compatibility and Environmental Impact of Electromagnetic Fields” from the same University in 2005. He was appointed Assistant Professor of Electrotechnics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" in 2006. Since 2018 he has been Associate Professor in Electrical Engineering (09/E1 – ING-IND/31) at the same University. He obtained the National Scientific Qualification to function as full Professor in Electrical Engineering in 2017. Currently, he is with the Department of Astronautical, Electrical and Energetic Engineering (DIAEE) of the University of Rome "La Sapienza". He is also Steering Committee Member of the Research Center on Nanotechnology applied to Engineering of Sapienza (CNIS). Since 2013 he has been member of the Electrical, Materials and Nanotechnology Engineering PhD Course, University of Rome "La Sapienza".
Since many years he has been teaching the course of Electrotechnics for the Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering and the laboratory courses of Sensors and Electrical/Electromagnetic Characterization of Materials for the Master’s degree in Nanotechnology Engineering of the University of Rome "La Sapienza".

The research activity of Alessio Tamburrano is in the field of electromagnetic compatibility and of nanotechnology. In particular, it has been recently focused on the:
- modelling, design and experimental characterization of nanostructured and multifunctional materials for electromagnetic applications, such as shielding materials, radar absorbing materials, transparent metals, advanced nanocomposites, nanostructured thin films;
- development of graphene-based highly sensitive piezoresistive paints/coatings and nanocomposites with strain sensing capabilities for structural health monitoring applications;
- fabrication and characterization of novel flexible physical sensors based on the use of porous polymeric structures loaded with nanoparticles for wearable electronics applications;
- modelling and simulation of the transmission line performances and signal integrity of nanointerconnects made of single-wall carbon nanotube bundles, multi-wall carbon nanotubes and graphene nanoribbons for future high-speed electronics.
Such research activity has led to the publication of more than 90 papers in International journals and proceedings of International symposia. His scientific production includes 2 chapter's contributions in books. He is also co-author of 5 Italian patents (3 internationalized) describing the design of innovative transparent active shields for low frequency magnetic field, the realization of new transparent radar absorbing screens characterized by high transmittance in the optical frequency range, novel radar absorbing nanocomposite based shields and nanostructured films for the solar energy control and a new polymeric conductive piezoresistive graphene-based paint for electromagnetic and sensing applications.
He participated as a researcher in the European project FP7-ICT "CATHERINE" (2008-2010) for the realization of carbon nanotube nano-connections and the electromagnetic modeling and characterization of composite materials in the funded European II-level project HIRF-SE within the FP7 (2009-2013).
He is senior member of IEEE since 2017 and member of the IEEE EMC Society from which he received the 2005 Best Paper Award at the International Symposium on EMC, Chicago, USA for the article "Feasibility of new nanolayered transparent thin films for active shielding of low frequency magnetic field ". He was project leader (2010-2014) of the Joint Project Team 80004-9 - Nanotechnologies - Vocabulary - Part 9: Electrotechnical products and systems "of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
From 2011 to 2013 he was Secretary and subsequently, from 2013 to 2017 Chair of the Technical Committee of the IEEE EMC Society TC-11 "Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials". Since 2016 he has been a member of the Working Group P 2715 - IEEE guides for the characterization of the shielding effectiveness of planar materials.
