Alessio Monciatti is full professor of History of medieval art at the University of Molise, Dipartimento diScienze Umanistiche, Sociali e della Formazione, since 01/02/2018.Chairman of the Bachelor's degree in Literature and Art History.
Born in San Giovanni Valdarno (AR) on June 5th 1971, he graduated in humanities in 1996. He hasstudied history of medieval art with Adriano Peroni at the University of Florence and with Enrico Castelnuovo at the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, where he earned a degree in “Perfezionamento indiscipline storico artistiche” cum laude in January 2000.He has been awarded several grants, from the École Normale Supérieure in Paris, the École Française de Rome and the Centro Italiano di Studi sull’Alto Medioevo in Spoleto. He held post-doctoral fellowshipsat the Bibliotheca Hertziana - Max-Planck-Institut für Kunstgeschichte in Rome from 2000 until 2001 andat the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa from 2001 until 2003. A researcher at the Scuola NormaleSuperiore of Pisa from 2003 to 2004, he worked as an art historian at the Soprintendenza per ilPatrimonio Storico, Artistico e Demoantropologico in Milan between 2004 and 2005. From 2013 until2014 has been associated academic at Kunsthistorisches Institut - Max-Planck-Institut fürKunstgeschichte in Florenz.He has been a member of the Board of AISAME (Associazione Italiana Storici dell’Arte Medievale) since2007 and of C.I.S.Ba.M. (Centro Italiano di Studi sul Basso Medioevo-Accademia Tudertina) since 2011.He has been a fellow of the Accademia Petrarca di Scienze, Lettere e Arti in Arezzo and ‘accademicod’onore’ of the Accademia delle Arti del disegno. Since 2017 he is a fellow of Collegio docenti of Scuola di Specializzazione in Beni Storico-Artistici
atUniversità degli studi di Perugia and of SISCA (Società Italiana di Storia della Critica d’Arte); since 2019 he is a fellow of Collegio docenti of Dottorato di ricerca in
Storia dell ’arte at Sapienza,Università di Roma.
Research Interests:- The art of the thirteenth century in Italy and in Europe;- The decoration of ecclesiastical monuments of medieval Europe, with particular reference to themosaics and painting in central Italy between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries;- The history of the Vatican Palace in the Middle Ages and other papal residences and cardinals in Romeand in Italy;- Painting on wood of the twelfth century and the thirteenth century;- The formation and transmission of models and the use of the design between the twelfth andfourteenth centuries;- Giotto;- History of art history through art exhibitions and medieval, with particular attention, Giottesca Show1937 in Florence;- The memory and the vision of the Middle Ages from Dante to Vasari.
