Research: Reframing migrant narratives in Italy: The citizenship referendum as a case study in public debate across social and legacy media.

I obtained my Master's Degree in Publishing and Writing and my Bachelor's Degree in Sociology, both at the University of Rome "La Sapienza."
Prior to my doctoral studies, I worked as a researcher at the Italian Institute for Cultural Industry (IsICult), where I contributed to two projects on the role of culture as a tool for social inclusion, focusing on individuals with physical and/or psychological challenges and people with a migrant background.
My research investigates the possibilities of proposing alternative narratives on the migratory phenomenon and promoting cultural changes from the bottom up. Particular attention is dedicated to the role of social movements, pro-social associations, and cultural centers.
The main goal is to counteract the media's role in the (re)production of hegemonic social representations, which are often - as in the case of migrants - negative and dehumanizing.
A case study analyzed concerns the citizenship referendum of June 8 and 9, 2025. II have collected data from both mainstream media (TV news and newspapers) and social platforms (X, Bluesky, Instagram). The theme of citizenship constitutes a central political issue, closely linked to the integration of migrants (so-called naturalization).
The analyses include both qualitative approaches (frame content analysis) and quantitative approaches (cluster analysis and correspondence analysis); furthermore, interviews with activists who promote practices of intercultural inclusion are planned.
My research interests include political communication, citizenship studies, social movements, and digital activism. I have also previously dealt with the crisis of intellectual and political authorities, the role of journalism, democracy, and populism.

The project is financed by a PNRR scholarship and an agreement is in place between the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and the CNR-Ismed (Institute for Mediterranean Studies).
