Research: Optical computation based on polarization of light

Alessandro Petrini obtained his BSc in Physics (L-30) on 22/03/2021, with a dissertation titled “Laser cooling and magneto-optical trapping” under the supervision of Prof. G. Batignani. He subsequently earned his MSc in Physics (LM-17), curriculum "Condensed matter physics, on 24/09/2024, defending a thesis titled “Study of Whispering Gallery Mode microlasers coupled with plasmonic gold nanorods” under the supervision of Dr. N. Ghofraniha. On 1/11/2024, he was awarded a one-year post-graduate research fellowship at the Institute of Complex Systems (ISC-CNR), National Research Council of Italy, where he carried out experimental research on structured light beams in complex media. Since1/11/2025, he has been a PhD scholarship holder at the Department of Basic and Applied Sciences for Engineering (SBAI), Sapienza University of Rome, under the supervision of Prof. Davide Pierangeli. His doctoral research focuses on optical computation based on polarization of light, taking part to the LOOP project. Research interests: Optical computing, polarization of light, nonlinear optics, complex optics, photonic machine learning.
