Alessandro Boccolini is an Associate Professor in Modern History at the University of Tuscia (Italy), where he teaches Eastern European History, the History of Central Europe and the History of the Slavic countries.
He obtained a Ph.D. in "History and Culture of travel and travel literature in Modern History". Research fellow for the Institute of Italian Culture in Stockholm and the Clerici Foundation, he held his postdoctoral at the Dalarna University in Falun (Sweden) with a project entitled "Italian travellers in Sweden during the Modern Age". During the academic year 2019/20 is a Visiting Research and Visiting Professor for the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, and in 2020, is a Visiting Professor for the Italian Centre "Leonardo da Vinci" of Lviv Polytechnic National University (Ukraine). His research is focused on the theme of papal diplomacy during the modern age, with specific attention to the role of the papal nuncio in Central and Eastern Europe. He also researches the history of travel and Italian travellers in Europe and the central-east part of it. He is a member of CESPoM (Center Study on the Sobieski Age and Modern Poland) and director of "Eastern European History Review", a scientific journal accredited by Anvur (Italian national agency for the evaluation of universities and research institutes) as Fascia A. He is an ordinary member of C.I.R.V.I. (Centro Interuniversitario di Ricerche sul Viaggio in Italia). He is a member of the scientific council of D.T.C. Lazio (Technological District and Center of Excellence) and the scientific board of PhD in "History of Europe" at Sapienza University of Rome. He publishes and participates in national and international conferences and is head of research projects with some Eastern European universities and institutions. In December 2023, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification (A.S.N.) for Full Professor in Modern History functions.
