Thesis title: Innovazione e Sostenibilità nei Processi Produttivi: Analisi della Decarbonizzazione con Riferimento alle Emissioni GHG

This dissertation explores the strategic role of sustainability in corporate production processes, with a specific focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) decarbonization. The first part analyzes how companies—especially Italian firms operating in global markets—manage regulatory and environmental pressures, highlighting how a proactive approach to sustainability can enhance competitive advantage. Using the GHG Protocol and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology, the research focuses on reducing direct emissions (Scope 1) in the agri-food sector, presenting a comparative case study on three different fresh tomato production models. The second part shifts to the analysis of indirect emissions (Scope 3), assessing the environmental impact of raw material supply chains, with a particular focus on the industrial plant engineering sector. A predictive model is applied to Maire Group and other strategic supply chains (steel, EI&C, energy, copper), offering synthetic indicators to guide companies in selecting more sustainable suppliers by integrating technological, geographic, and economic variables. The overall goal is to provide operational tools to support a transition toward low-emission production models, combining innovation, competitiveness, and environmental responsibility.
